In her unforgettable new novel When Morning Comes, Francis Ray delivers an emotionally powerful tale about the families we build, the choices we make, and how we find love and family along the way.
Dr. Cade Mathis learned early that he was not the son of the man who raised him. His adoptive father, a cruel, bitter man, had always been quick to tell him that he was a bastard and an embarrassment to the rich society family whose daughter got pregnant with him. So when Cade received a full scholarship to college, he was only too happy to leave the only home he had ever known behind and never looked back. Now a successful doctor and one of the best neurosurgeons in the state, the only thing he still wants are answers about where he came from. What he doesn't expect to find is Sabrina Thomas, the new patient advocate at his hospital, or how this woman will lead him to the family he has been searching for and a love he never expected to find.

Two love stories interconnect in Ray's latest romance (after With Just One Kiss, 2012), the start of a series based on strained yet not irreparably broken family ties. Hospital patient advocate Sabrina Thomas appreciates a fine-looking man when she sees one. But when that man is coldhearted, arrogant neurosurgeon Cade Mathis, her professional responsibilities and personal baggage rear up in protest. Despite their prickly attitudes toward one another, an unmistakable attraction flares with all its denied passion as they each discover the reasons behind their defensive stances on love. Sabrina's friend and coworker, talented but insecure artist Kara Simmons, lacks a backbone when it comes to her overbearing mother. When she meets Tristan Landers at the hospital, she catches a faint glimmer of a more promising future, if only they both have the courage to go for what their hearts desire. The verbal jousting and lovey-dovey gazes between each couple entertain despite an unfortunate tendency for the prose to lean toward shoveling rather than sprinkling in backstory information. Ray's considerable following should eat up this sweet entry in the ever popular contemporary romance genre.(Reprinted with permission of Booklist, copyright 2012, American Library Association.)
